Nice report, I loved that place. I spent two weeks there in 2010 ish fighting the Honey Prairie fire. One of the biggest fires I have ever been on. The fire created its own weather, rained and hailed on us from the Pyrocumulus cloud.
May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

Wow, LindenTree--I can't imagine fighting a fire like that. We remember the fire, and ONWR was closed for quite a while after it, then drought years kept some of ONWR's northeast corner paddle trails closed. It was almost a year after lightning started the fire that it was officially declared out. You may find this link and the Wildfire Today link interesting. Thanks for reading and commenting.

TZ, I worked wih Rocky Chesser on that fire and a bunch of his co workers. I was Strike Team Leader for 3 USFWS Bull Dozers wth plows on that fire. We called them Tractor Plows. Rocky Chesser's relatives used to live on Chesser Island. That fire would reburn over areas that had already burned previously, it did that over and over again.
