Heading up tomorrow morning, Sunday John Lake permit. Hoping to camp at a remote campground like Devilfish for sat nite and head in Sunday. Anyone stayed at Devilfish, Ester or McFarland? Recommendations?

Hoping to get one of the 3 campsites on John although permits are taken for 6 days prior. Can't really do big portages anymore due to health issues so not sure what we would do if all are taken.

Haven't had any significant time off since October so really looking forward to this trip. Sadly the weather has taken a turn for the worse with possible rain and 50s Tuesday and Wednesday. Hoping they are wrong but we will make the best of it regardless.

Camping a night at Judge C R Magney State Park after the trip cuz that's what we do. Usually car camp a night before the trip and a night after the trip, seems to help the transition in and out of the BWCA. Always a good time.

Hoping for an open campsite on John, the fish are biting, the weather is better than expected and the bugs are not unbearable. Not too much too ask?

I hope you have a good trip Lindy. The weather dropping 10 degrees may shut down the fishing. Hopefully not. We were considering a last minute Memorial Weekend trip, but the forecast for 57 degree highs, 38 degree lows Fri/Sat and a bit of rain in the forecast, changed our mind. I know, that's a little weak, but... our kids are grown, and we have flexible careers with regard to PTO, so we can cherry pick a little bit.

We are heading up to Missing Link on Monday. We are also hoping for a good campsite, good fishing, and for weather better than what is predicted. It seems like every time I check the weather report it gets worse! We are going with our son and his wife, and because of work and flights we can’t rearrange our dates.

Hope you have a great trip !

I was supposed to be heading up to Homer Lake tomorrow and going in on Tuesday. Kept watching the weather and bailed yesterday. Cold front and lots of rain made it hard to drive 800 miles. Looked like we could have been sitting under a a tarp for several days. Snagged a permit for June 3rd on Moose instead.

Lindylair - we are entering June 2nd on a North Fowl (EP 70) permit. Interested to hear about your trip - fishing advice always well received. We are staying at McFarland campground June 1, so will have some time to hit John lake. Also on way back as we are doing a loop through Moose-Mountain and the Pikes.

Preacherdave - see we will be up there at same time, but in different areas. Looking forward to testing out that fish guarantee that came along with the canoe!! Good luck and safe travels!!
