Entry Point 50 - Cross Bay Lake

Cross Bay Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Gunflint Ranger Station near the city of Grand Marais, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 45 miles. Access is thru the Cross River with two portages to Ham Lake and a 24-rod portage to Cross Bay Lake. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Thanks for the nice trip report and photos. We did this route quite a number of years ago - basecamping on the same island. It was a great spot!

Nice relaxing trip. Thanks for the neat pictures. I camped on that island once a long time ago in the late fall. It was a great place to be as after a sunny calm day paddling in, we got winded in and on day 3 or 4 we woke up in the morning to 4-5 inches of snow on our tent. We decided to leave and fought the wind from the north back to the put-in, where of course as soon as we landed, the wind quit and the sun came out. Sigh.
