Bittersweet. I did the same trip in May. Tried to get to Hudson, messed up navigation, had lots of wind too,and ended up on Three where we also layed over for a day before heading back.

Thanks for the humor. Levity makes everything better, even the imperfect trip. Love the sleeping son vignette. Sounds like you made the best of it. I enjoyed your tr. Thanks, Karen

An entertaining read!! Who are these kids that don't like to camp and fish? Hopefully the seed is planted and they will return eventually if not soon. Your efforts are to be applauded.

I love the report..Took my two boys last year so I could be the commander and they could be the privates and they had a blast and really helped out a lot (24 and 27 yrs old) They were troopers also.
They said I made it more like boot camp cause I had an agenda on the loop to hit a lot of places...Next time it will be less portaging and more fishing when they are along. So your report reminded me of our trip.
Take care and thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the nice comments. I think my daughter likes these trips more than the two sons I brought, but I have 5 other sons so there is still hope for the male genome.

NIce report, my son could not go with this year due to work restrictions. Even though it was not perfect it is still with family and that is cool. Way to go.

Your writeup is very entertaining reading. It also proves again that a canoe party needs to be able to improvise. Hope your sons "light up" the the BW eventually...or bring the girl and a friend.

Great read and trip report. Taking both of my boys next year. They are as different as night and day, so it should be interesting.

Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

The trick is to start them young - six or seven is about right.

Nice report - thanks!

Sounds like a nice adventure. I agree with your assessment that the things that energize you does not always translate to your kids.

My only other advice might be to carry some nightcrawlers with you. They are pretty durable and easy to transport and catching a few smallies might be better than nothing at all.
