Very nice report! Alot of good information provided. Thanks for sharing your story & photos.

That large rock DOES look like a big tiki mask. lol

Too bad the fish didn't cooperate some. But, by the looks of all the smiles on your group photo, it seems everyone had a great time?

I think we actually paddled right by you on that friday. We had left Cherokee that morning and we were debating camping on the east side of Long Island Lake that night. We looked at the 3 sites just east of where you were camped, but did not like any of the sites. Especially the view of the burned area.

I am sure it was you because I remember how nice your site looked and recognize it from your pictures. I would have had my sunrise, which I like so much up in the BW! I also remembered the dog and the kids! We would have been neighbors!

Nice pictures & nice report! Sorry we didn't get to chat.

Lol!! I really was wondering if that could have been you!! The only canoe to come by the whole time we were there.

Very nice looking set up, you cruised by the north side of the island we were on heading east into the wind and then back through later. I do think I got a chance to wave anyways. :)

You didn't miss much for sunrise, the burned island east of ours was close enough to block the view of the sun on the far horizon and the clouds were such that the sun didn't really show too well when it got high enough to clear the burnt island.

It would have been nice to catch some trout. But the kids didn't seem to mind too much. Nice trip report.

Thank-you for the report. Enjoyed it.

Thanks much, they are great kids.

I use others reports to plan my trips so I figured it was time to try and throw out a little report of my own in return.

One big bonus to the gunflint area trips would be the obvious trip up 61 that takes you past all the beautiful stops, split rock, shovel point, palisade, all the rivers, grand marais etc.

Can the "witch tree" still be viewed? I haven't seen it since I was a kid and I think I had heard at one point that it was all fenced off now?
