Nice trip report trailhiker, I would have took the million dollars for the headnet. :)

It looks like you had a great family vacation - hopefully more BWCA trips in store for all of you. It's so true about the beauty of the northwoods - the call of loon, howling wolves, soaring eagles, northern lights - it's what keeps me coming back. Thanks for posting your trip report!

Enjoyed your report. Some great photos!

Never lost. All portages and roads go somewhere or they would not be there.

Thermacell - we call it "Thermacrack". If you use it once, you're hooked!
Great report, sounds like you had really wonderful first trip. It does help having previous backcountry experience. Funny thing about that is our first time, we packed minimally (backpacker mentality) but now we carry the kitchen sink. We couldn't single portage anyway so if we're going to be slow, might as well enjoy it.

Excellent report, glad you had a nice family outing, good on you for going it alone. Get some floating pliers next time, or some that you can tie into the boat, been there done that.

Fish also have sharp things on them :-). I usually get nailed by the walleye gills, man they are sharp if you get bit by one of them.

Great report. I use my headnet all the time too. Million bucks:), I am sure if she had the money on her, the lady would of handed it over in a second. I carry two headnets. One in PFD and one for around camp. They are wonderful.

Sounds like a stellar trip; thanks for sharing! I envy your daily meals of fish...even if it kept your food pack full and heavy!

Sounds like you had a enjoyable first trip. Glad you got to introduce your boys, entire family, to the experience. I too like the change of pace of paddling small streams/creeks between open water lakes. Thank you for sharing your great trip report.

Next time we are going to go for walleye - we were just having too much fun catching small mouth.

I've been reading about fishing techniques for walleye, but I will watch those gill plates.

Very nice report TH. What a great looking family of trippers! Hey, I learned something from you. The thermacell next to the privy is a great idea. I always treat my clothes with permethrin, but usually get attacked when sitting on the pot. Every trip is a learning experience, so keep on learning and sharing.

Last year I tried a thermacell for the first time. Everyone kept on complaining about flies and mosquitoes in and around the privy or when washing up. I never had a problem so by mid trip I just hung the thermacell back there and told people to try think ahead and turn it on ~10 min or so before they had to go. It does work, but it takes 10-15 minutes to take effect. It doesn't work when you are moving such as portaging, that is what long sleeves and head nets are for.
