Nice report!

Finding the right trip partners can be as important as having the right gear. Those portages into Tuscarora can certainly bring any deficiencies in those areas to the fore front. Still, it looks like there was some fun to be had & were able to get some decent fish to boot. At the very least, you should be better prepared for the next adventure.

Thanks for taking the time to share your story & photos.

Sounds like you know how to make a fun trip and catch fish out of bad weather pretty well. No thanks on portaging a Grumman but the pine cone sock baseball looks like fun!

Thanks for reading and commenting TB. All and all it was a pretty good trip. Not ideal, but better than no trip at all. Definitely a learning experience with regards to trip partners and group size. Seven just seemed like there were too many people trampling around camp.

I took a short trip in August with JB and another friend of mine. Single portage, less food, more quiet, more fun. This spring it's just 3-4 of us. I won ever go with more unless its me and 8 Olympic female volleyball players.

I thought the portage from Round to missing link was worse that the big one. Lots of mud and ankle breakers.

You could really put some english on that sock/cone ball after a bit. One guy used to pitch for the U of M. Nothing like a duct taped sock flying at your face at top speed!

Thanks for the trip report and for reinforcing my conviction never to trip with a large group. I also think four would be about my limit and that's only if it was the right four ;). But it sounds like you had some fun out of it anyway.

Nice trip report. It sounds like it was fun, even with the full house. I could not imagine 'max-ing' out the permit for 9 people! That would almost drive me crazy. Pine cone sock ball sounds fun too
