Entry Point 47 - Lizz & Swamp Lakes

Lizz and Swamp Lakes entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Gunflint Ranger Station near the city of Grand Marais, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 34 miles. Access from Poplar Lake by 51-rod portage to Lizz Lake and 100-rod portage into Swamp Lake only. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Nice report and thanks for sharing. I've entered from Poplar a few times because I love the small skinny lakes from Horseshoe to Omega but still have not made it to Vista. Always afraid of getting to Vista to find the southern site taken and then have to backtrack out again. On my list of possible trips for my solo this year is entering at Morgan and exiting at Lizz. First night I'd stay on Vista if that site is open.

Great report! We too were there last week in the snow - but over on the Ely side. I wanted to get more pictures of the snow - but was too cold to take pictures as well. ;-)

Thanks for the report. I'm heading up to that area in less than two weeks. Not looking forward to the flooded portwge but at least I won't be surprised now.
