Sounds like an awesome trip. I'm jealous - I wish my wife were that adventurous. She's informed me that after tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan that she's never voluntarily sleeping in a tent again. I respect that. I love that part of the BeeDub.

Your mishap with the sandal in the mud is why I wear over-the-calf boots.

We had a similar experience with the key confusion on the Buffalo River in Arkansas, except we convinced ourselves that we told the outfitter the wrong date to drop off the car at the take-out point. My friend's cell phone got one bar of service at one of the entry points, and he was able to call and confirm that we had given them the correct date, which took the anxiety off our minds. Then we weren't sure we were going to be able to get in the car because we hadn't brought 2 sets of keys, so locking the keys in the car wasn't going to work for us. Fortunately, they remembered the procedure we described for hiding the key.

Nice report and pictures. I wish I would have seen this when you initially posted it. We met you on Malberg one evening. We were out fishing and I saw the flying moose on you canoe and we spoke for a couple of minutes. We were two guys in an SRQ17, one old guy (me) in the stern and a young 20 something guy in the bow.

Thanks for the report, we're thinking of a similar route for next year. Anything we need to do or see while there? The picto's sound interesting...we've seen other sets in the BW

Great report Jazzywine! Looks like it was an awesome trip despite the key debacle. Here's hoping we can pull off a trip in July ;) !

I liked reading this and real nice pics. I can sympathise with losing the pics off the camera. It happened to me and I was on your same route! I had caught a golden walleye just like you did but accidentally formatted my new digi camera back in 2008.

I love that selfie of all five of you in the canoe. What a cool shot. Looks like you guys had a real fun time. Thanks for the report and welcome to the board.

We had a similar experience with Bill Hanson and the shuttling last year. My tripping partner was having some medical issues and there was no way he was going to be able to complete the planned trip. Leaving S. Temperance, we decided to cut it short and try to get out at Baker a day early, rather than going on to Sawbill, where we had started the loop and parked the truck. Before we got into Kelly, my partner sent a text (via InReach) to his daughter telling her not to worry, but he was having trouble and needed her to call Sawbill and let them know that we were cutting it short and needed a a pickup at Baker due to his health. We'd be there at 7 pm.

Long story short, the message Bill got was there was a medical emergency at Baker EP and we needed a pick up right now. It was 1 in the afternoon. They sent a guy right away, then got the correct ETA for us, so they had to send someone else to tell the guy who had already left to get us. Bill picked us up at 7 that night. When I found out about all the confusion and the 3 round trips to Baker, I offered to pay for the trips they made and he wouldn't hear of it. He refused my offer multiple times. I still feel bad about putting him and the staff through that, but he was very gracious about the whole thing.

Great report. Sounds like an awesome trip! I did that trip in reverse with my wife a few years ago (stayed on the same site on Malberg). It's a great area.

I've also done the key mistake your guys made on a trip with my Dad. Luckily, our take out was only a 2 mile walk to where we put-in so it wasn't a big deal.

Really nice report, great pictures. I did notice that you guys all had your lifejackets on , smart move. When I go with my kids we all wear our PFDs even though 2 are US Navy sailors and one daughter in law was a college swimmer. I have to say that group looks like a fun group, and you must have been well organized. By the looks of the canoes you were packed well and light. Being most of you were new to the whole BWCA gig you certainly must have had a few "whoops" moments, but I didn't read about any other than the lost shoe. Don't be shy about writing about them, we have and will have them. Other board members might good natured tease you about them but we've all been down that portage and it might show some body else what not to do. It's always good to have somebody along with medical training and it sounds like your GF patched you up pretty good. Just my thought here but sounds like she is probably a keeper. I did noticed at the end of your report you said something to do with now that this trip was finished you could start planning for the next one, in my opinon that is wrong you start planning the NEXT on before you finish this one. If no one has welcomed you to the board please allow me to be the first. FRED
