05/19/2017 11:28AM I found the portages from North Bay to Anchor in relatively decent shape three years ago. Lots of corduroy but it kept me out of the deep muck. From Anchor to Sunday I managed to force paddle the creek nearly the entire way. There was plenty of water to float the canoe but tons of vegetation to impede progress and turning. I did not look or find the portage that avoids the marsh entirely. Campsite on Anchor is quite nice. |

05/18/2017 06:37PM I have been through there twice. Once to avoid wind and once just to see the lake. I would agree the portages aren't in the best shape and can be wet. However, it does seem to be a nice alternative if you have been through Burke a million times. Anchor looks like a nice lake, although I think all lakes have their own individual appeal. I would plan on going unless the water level is quite high. |

05/18/2017 02:48PM I have done the Sunday-Burke-North Bay route many times. We were looking to find places we haven't been. The current plan is to spend a night on Anchor. Sounds like there is not much traffic and relatively unfished water. We do single portage, but it still sounds like a difficult one for the newbies on their first day. |

05/18/2017 09:05AM I did those portages last summer. They get overgrown from lack of use. They look short on the map but I remember lots of up and down so all the uphill portaging offsets the shorter length. At one landing I sunk up to my thigh in sticky mud. After getting out of the mud it was difficult to get into the canoe and get the canoe moving through the shallow, weeds/muck. It's doable, but, if you are on Sunday Lake, it seems easier to go through Burke to get to North Bay. Sunday - Anchor - North Bay Total Distance: 5.8 Miles Paddling Distance: 3.2 Miles Portaging Distance: 2.5 Miles Sunday - Burke - North Bay Total Distance: 6.1 Miles Paddling Distance: 5 Miles Portaging Distance: 1.2 Miles (double portaging) |

05/18/2017 05:40AM In 2015 I went from North Bay to anchor. We couldn't locate the supposed portage so tried the tiny creek that connects the lakes. A lot of pushing and pulling. I would suggest using the portage. This pic is of my canoe in the lead with my brother and nephew pulling theirs to me. There was water and it was deep enough just not wide enough.  |

05/17/2017 11:37PM I am planning a late July Quetico trip to the north end of Agnes. We are going up the S chain, but I am considering going north out of Sunday Lake through Anchor Lake. I have not been able to find any information on the portages in to and out of Anchor to North Bay. Had anyone bee there in the last few years? |
