Hi Goose

I had lunch in the same place. The day before I lost my stove as the plunger broke so I had to cook the old fashion way for 17 days. Had a good trip without injury although it was buggier and wetter than normal, but the fishing was great.

John...

My son-in-law reminded me that we DID have lunch there like you say. (It was more of an exposed rock reef full of goose crap than an island.) Now I remember seeing your canoe...it was the only sign of others we saw all that day until Your Lake. One of these days we'll meet up and share a few stories, I hope!

Were you having lunch on a small island in March on August 21st? I was down at the other end catching walleyes. I would have come over but I thought you were going my way.

John, We went from Bentpine to Your on that day, but saw no one else. Can't remember snack or lunch breaks. Long day! If it was us you saw, I am sorry we missed you. We really need to plan better when crossing paths! Cheers... --Goose

I went from Badwater to Jean this summer by way of Bolder. I believe it was the portage between Bolder and Your had a swamp section with 2 ways to get through. In high water the middle of the swamp would be paddled but now it is easier to walk the north edge. Much of it is deep enough to float your canoe with gear in it and the bottom is solid. Met someone who had gone the other way and they said it was thy deep muck.

Hi Goose,

I just went to Jean and came out through Badwater. We went through Boulder and hit Your Lake. First three portages were nothing too bad. The last one Boulder to Your was an adventure. It goes right through a swamp with 2-3 feet of standing water for 300 yards or so. Then you can paddle/push your way to a dam. We never found the second 21 rod portage. We just followed the flow of beaver dams (six, I think). I think the beaver had changed the landscape.

Wear pants as my wife and her shorts didn't fair great against the slough grass. Hope this helps!

Was on Jean and Burntside last week. Did not go into Badwater. When we first did the portage from Jean into Burntside, it was a swampy muddy mess. On the way back out, four days later, it was drier and more manageable. Hope that helps.

No worries, Goose.

Wish I could help Goose, but we'll be heading into Badwater around Labor Day, so I'll actually be reaching out to you for water/portage/fishing info. Hope there's more info on this thread in the coming weeks.

Ah, sorry for misreading your post. Thanks for the all caps and multiple asterisks to help me recognize my error.

Lol. I know OH is the BW go-to guy.

Jean to Badwater or Burnside to Badwater is of most interest to me this trip.

I just got back from a trip to the Q, and the water was higher than I've ever seen it. Crazy high. Your trip is a ways away, so hopefully the water goes down a bit, but if not, I'd bet the boggy sections are going to be much boggier and the muddy sections much muddier.

Sorry I can't give better info.

The person to ask about this route is Old Hoosier. He's been very helpful with me in the past. Calling Old Hoosier....

Sorry not yet.....

Thanks Scott. Any info for the area to the southeast... Badwater to Burntside?

Hi Goose,
Have made the Badwater to Omeme portage last two years in a row. It is at the absolute NW most tip of BW. It got very little use or care, but was in decent shape - like a well worn game trail. Maybe .25 - .33 miles with modest elevation change, and just light brush.

Hope that helps, let us know how the trip goes. Im trying to get back there right after labor day.

Plan to loop from Beaverhouse down to Jean and over/up to Badwater starting on August 17. If anyone has gone FROM JEAN TO BADWATER recently, or does between now and then I'd appreciate any useful info.
