Fishing was great! Probably the best I have had in a long time. I was up with Capt Tony and my wife and here is a list of lures we used to catch fish:

Walleye: Jig head w/white ring worm
Jig head with white twister tail
Flicker Shad in purple and gold
Flicker Shad in silver white
Zman Shad in clear with black and white speckles
Jigging a silver blade bait

Pike: White and red #4 Mepps
20-30 ft deep diving tail dancers
Original Rapalas
Top water baits on slack water of the falls as sun goes down.

Bass: Pretty much any of the above

Posted a few of the many fishing pictures we got. Kawnipi Rocks!

Got home last Thursday, just haven't had time to report with Irish Fest going on and trying to get pickles canned.
The trip was a great experience and we made it to Kawnipi this time. TRyied to get to Kawnipi in one day but got to Kenny Lake and it was 6:00 so decided to spend the night and head on to Kawnipi day 2. Anyhoo the fishing was fantastic and the scenery awesome.
Thanks to everyone for your advice!

quote Capsize: "The bottom of Kennebas Falls is the best fishing in Kawnipi. We used Quetico Mike's 4" plasticized minnows (Zman brand from Cabellas) and clobbered the walleye at the falls. I'm sure luck had a lot to do with it, but it was the best fishing I have seen in 10 trips to the Falls chain and Kawnipi. "

Glad to hear you had a successful fishing trip! :)

Jigging can be productive for eyes on Kawnipi too. If you have electronics, that will help immensely if you want to jig.

Weeds. weeds. weeds.

On my most recent trip (just got back a week ago), every single time we found cabbage weeds (big, broad leaves), we found lots of walleyes. Of course, there were pike and bass in them, too.

Unfortunately, the cabbage had not yet pushed out of the water, so we couldn't just paddle around and look for it. Our best bet was trolling until we contacted it and then throwing, well, anything through it and around the edges.

Kawanipi.........was a troll through lake for me while doing Hunters loop.

I couldn't make any progress because within 5 minutes of throwing my lure back I had another fish. Certainly the most fishy water in the Q that I have been to.

Fish the saddles between islands up in the bays. Also try to find some reefs. Look for weeds. Fish out from points.

Casting and trolling for me would mostly be gold J9 Rapala or gold Rapala Husky Jerk. Shad Raps will also work well.

Jigging - fake leech or ZMAN Shadz with 1/8 oz or 1/4 jig head.

Fishing gurus.
I will be heading up to Kawnipi in a week and have 2 questions.

Aside from moving water, where should we be looking for eyes and when?

I will carry 3 rigged poles when fishing. One casting, one trolling, and one jigging. What would you rig each pole with?

Thanks,
