Also, I believe it says that people from other jurisdictions wearing life jackets are not rquired to have a throw bag. Implying that if you wish to carry your life jacket on the floor of your boat you need to have one?

Just print off the rules on a piece of paper and keep it with ya. A lot lighter than the useless junk they require.

I wonder if those ticketed were Americans in Canadian canoes? An outfitter canoe would be required to follow the rules.

Anecdotally I've been stopped 3x in the Q and never had an issue and I just have life jackets as MN law requires.

Not required for those of us from the US but I still carry one along. I use it for a clothes line sometimes.

A point of clarification, please. Are the outfitters saying that Canadians are being ticketed for not having a throwbag, or are those with non-Canadian canoes being ticketed? The law does differentiate between the two categories.

"Safety Equipment Requirements
Boats licensed or registered in a country other than Canada
Foreign boats (those that are licensed or registered in a country other than
Canada) need to comply with the equipment requirements of the country in
which the boat is usually kept."

" *If everyone on board is wearing a lifejacket or a PFD of appropriate size, you are only required to carry :
. 1) a sound-signalling device; and
. 2) a watertight flashlight if the boat is used after sunset or before sunrise or in periods of restricted visibility."

I saw in one posting that a throw bag is required for all canoes in the Quetico. Is this correct? And do you bring a throw bag?

I imagine I could pick one up at William and Hall if necessary.
