01/30/2018 10:22PM Kip- I would have guessed the same but Chris from Black River Sleds has photo albums of some of his past trips on his website (including one to Bat)-they totally took the stairs so it can be done. |

01/30/2018 04:30PM Hi Dan, When you went to Bat and Craig, did you take the creek route from Brandt south of Gotter to get to Craig? Or did you do the portage way through Gotter, Flying and Green? I suspect you'd want to avoid the stair portage.... |

01/29/2018 09:49PM All those areas are very beautiful, and I liked the beauty in spots on the portage into Partridge be it skiis or canoe. Sometimes that portage seems short and others it is when am I going to get there. Use to see Moose tracks on that long Duncan bay usually. Gillis was always special in the winter,it seemed like I was in the middle of the wilderness. Real wild. Look forward to seeing the film myself. |

01/29/2018 08:18PM It will air again on Saturday again, after that It will be posted online. I can post the link when it is posted. Trout were buttered with lemon slices/ a bit of Lemon Pepper. wrapped in 3 layers of tin foil each and cooked on the grill surface over the open fire. I was the one who attended the fire- as like my mom would say "I am a cook by name only". Wish the pictures from inside the tent when supper was serving up came through better. There was a lot of steam from rice and fresh veggies. The two guys that came in with me the afternoon before Bill, Nick, Adam, and Aaron the Camera man came in we skied over to Stairway Portage for a day trip. Skiing to the end of Partridge as the sun was setting was magical with the high hills. A few inches of fresh snow on top of hard pack made skiing easy. Skiing out we received 4-6 inches of fluff, in big floating snowflakes. Winter camping with Bear is a treat. He has pretty much perfected a comfortable abode in the BWCAW during the winter. I have had the pleasure of winter camping 3 times with him and visiting his winter camp another. This year he was on Crag lake by Gillis and Bat. A Easy 2 hour ski in for me with a toboggan. The bushwack to Gillis was quite the adventure, I skied with Bear and his sister to the Mora- Little Sag on a day trip. Still time for another adventure or two this winter? |

01/29/2018 04:52PM Thank for letting us know, I tuned in on time to catch only the last segment. Curious, what was the recipe you guys used for cooking the lake trout? I find these very enjoyable to watch and hope this becomes more of a regular thing for MN Bound and Dan Cooke. Have they ever thought of doing one with Bear also? It would be great if someone could please post a link to the full episode. I know MN Bound posts them on there website, but last time someone found it online before MN Bound made it accessible on there's. |
