Great trip report hobbydog, and definitely one of those trips to be remembered.

I took a trip at about the same time in the Q. Stayed a little too long. This is what I woke to on my "last" morning (Argo Lake). Did not manage to make it back to Mudro in a day.

Awesome trip report. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Little John is an area I've wanted to try, and this just gave me another reason.

Man that photo of the lake with the moon up. AWESOME!

In 2012 we fished a couple of lake trout lakes March 30 and 31 from canoe in 2012 before season closed that winter-spring up the Gunflint. Many were just like 40% open water. So you had to watch the ice movement and we were on small lakes so we could portage if we had to. I think we caught like one small lake trout total but it was neat just getting up there in March in Canoe.

hobbydog: "TomT: "Nice report and pics! What happened to your dog? That is a real shame to lose him at such a young age. He seemed to be the perfect canoe dog.
"

He was a one of a kind dog. He could vocalize to the point of almost talking. The cold water didn't bother him, in fact he loved it. On this trip he started swimming out from the camp site for no reason and just kept swimming. I was starting to worry about him. After about 100 yards he turned around and came back. He was wet the whole trip. Great canoe manners. In August of that year he started throwing up on a Friday. Took him to the vet on Saturday. They said it looked like a mass in his lower stomach. Took him to the U of M Vet clinic in the afternoon. They were going to do surgery on Monday but the tumor ruptured Sunday morning and he bleed out. Tough way to lose a dog. "

That's a tough loss for sure. You know, it's very similar to the way I lost my 11 year old Border Collie. He was fine but slowing down a little on our walks. Then one day he jumped on the couch and rested his head in my lap. He never came on the couch unless we invited him to. I thought it was odd then after a minute he stretched out and went stiff with mild convulsions and wimpering.

It was a Sunday so we rushed him 20 minutes to the nearest open vet. He had tumors in his stomach and I was told it would be best to put him down. Worst day of my life right there. At least I was able to comfort him on the table as they gave him the final shot. It's the only time I have cried as an adult.

Thanks for sharing.
That is a great trip report and wonderful pictures. I could almost taste those fillets.
Seems like winter is unwilling to let go this year.
Sorry about the untimely passing of Koop.
