06/13/2011 08:38PM Went and dug a couple pics out.  Here is what it looked like after I was done. Sorry not the best but this old man was getting tired.  This was May 29th, 2011 Will be getting myself the large Sven Saw. The 15" worked ok here, but not so well when I had a large pine to get through. The pine must have went down on Memorial Day in the winds. It would have been June 1st when we went into Agnes. Sorry no pictures of that one. Completely forgot. |

06/13/2011 08:25PM Yes sir I spent an hour cleaning trees from Hustler to Oyster in knee deep water and then an hour clearing a pine that went down going from Oyster to Agnes. All I had was my 15" Sven or I would have done a better job going unto Agnes. Part of the fun. I called the first one a Kodak moment. My son had no idea what I was talking about...... |

06/13/2011 04:44PM Just got back from a wonderful 8 day trip. If you intend to take the Oyster to Hustler portage be prepared. The beaver pond that has been in place now for several years and is 1/3 of the way from Oyster going to Hustler is now a complete mine field. Between more beaver work and a blow down you have a multitude of trees to bend over and around as you paddle that section of the portage. A major PITA. The rest of the portage on the way to Hustler has several significant blow downs where you will have to unload and pass across your pack or canoe. Plan extra time. We cleared a couple of the larger ones with our saw but eventually had to keep moving on. The Ruby to Lynx portage has also gathered quite a selection of blow downs which require some unpacking and crawling to move on down the trail. The fishing on Hustler was excellent so the travel was worth the work just wanted you to be prepared. |
