07/22/2011 01:44PM jjjds1999, To respond to the question about cameras: I am now using a Canon 7D digital SLR with some L-series lenses. But the photo that I entered in this contest was taken with my old Canon EOS D60 Digital SLR and an old EOS lens that I had from my 35mm days. I did have a tripod, which is a big help in taking night shots and fire shots. |

I remember back in the early 70's when we took our first trips and I was so frustrated taking photos because all I had was a little Kodak 110 cartridge camera and it was before 400-speed film was invented so it just wasn't possible to take any decent low-light photos. Your only possible photo at night was with a nasty flash that washed everything out. . . .I used to sit at sunset and just wish I could capture the glow, the fading light, the feeling and ambiance of the evening in canoe country. Or the fire. Or get a decent photo of the moon. |

07/12/2011 07:42AM This is always my favorite category of photo contest. Now I know "possible" is relative. I am sure if I had had a large-format camera with glass plates and a huge tripod and a really professional setup with me I could have done that. But I am talking about your average amateur photographer, who can NOW go up with a good digital (or even a film) camera and take these beautiful night shots. Just sitting on the shore admiring the sunset, or watching the fire. I am thankful for the advances in photography. And for all of you who are sharing such great images. |
