I think it's easier just to get wet once in a while....

For two years now I've experimented with an innie - hasn't rained on me in two years now! I think that is the secret to staying dry!!

Actually I've wondered how folks keep sheets of plastic in place. It seems to slide easily bunching up on one side of the tent or the other just from my moving around inside the tent. It's also pretty slippery for letting stuff slide around. I allow it to run up the sides/ends a few inches for the bathtub effect.

Tyvek may be where I go next year on this quest. The question that keeps haunting me is where there is a "pressure point" on the tyvek (something of size/weight) won't it be more prone to allow leakage?

I've been thinking of a good innie option as well. Right now I just use a cheap green tarp becuase thats what I have. It works fine and i've never gotten wet while using it but its bulky so packing it into the BWCA is a pain. But since nothing ruis a trip like a wet sleeping bag I suck it up and bring it with anyway

Skip the magnets. I'd say you are stronger moving around than the magnets.

As a life long innie guy, I think 4 mil is good for multiple use times, doesn't wear out. Anything thicker than 4 mil is tough to fold, and takes up a lot of space. 2 mil is great for one trip, light, small and compact, but subject to abuse. I have never used anything to hold it up, just cut it like 2 inches bigger all around.

Having it run up the inside is great. We use 2-mil plastic. In stead of magnets we are going to put some tacky seam sealer strips on both sides to reduce sliding which is only an issue on sloping sites.

You can go to a Home Depot or Menard's or Lowe's and buy bulk tyvek right off the roll. Buy the widest they have. Cut it WAY oversize and machine wash it. It will become soft, quiet and still remain waterproof.

use the plastic on a roll from the hardware store. painting supply I believe.

I would leave the magnets at home. I've never had the innie more much on me when inside the tent and has everything on top of it (expeds, sleeping bags, extra clothes, etc. I've also never had a wet sleeping bag with an innie. I have when we tried an outie.

Tyvek or heavy duty plastic (4-6 mil) works fine. You won't need the magnets.

I'm gonna make an innie for my tent already have a foot print. I just want the extra protection from ground pooling. Here's what I intend on doing, not sure what to use tyvek would be nice don't have any handy but what ever I choose this is the plan. You know what a bath tub floor is, I plan on cutting the material to size and run it up the inside of the tent walls a few inches. It will be secured in place by some cheap magnets on the inside and outside of the tent. Should stay nice and dry.

OK tell me what you guys think. Ideas. Yes. No. Improvements.
