12/12/2011 12:43PM We went opposite way - in on Moose and out at LIS EP14. You won't have a lot of layover days in 7 or 8 nights but doable. Lots of variety. If in busy season - July and August - you might pick up a Q permit for a portion of it and camp on Q side of Basswood River. Can be shortened a day if you come out at EP16. We scheduled a shuttle - I think $75 - from LSI back to Ely. I like point to point rather than loops if possible and this one was easy. If interested in Q, go up Moose and then up Man Chain, part way up Falls Chain, and back down McEwen. Lots of solitude. 6 nights was a little too much pushing for me and luckily we had no bad weather nor layover days - did stop early one day. But the Basswood River/border route is very pleasant. |

12/11/2011 10:13AM One option would be in 16 and out 23. Moose River to Mudro. Hopefully the wind would be at your back across Crooked. |

" agree. it all depends on what mileage youre planning on. i would say a leisurely trip would be about 8 miles a day travel, an agressive one would be 14 plus per day...but then it still depends on paddling stretches and number of portages. |

12/10/2011 08:30PM We typically are out five nights on our trips over the last four years. We only get do one trip a year. Next year I think we will try a longer trip. 7 or 8 nights. Our last four trip were: 2007- Seagull, Ogish, South Arm, Outtertrack, Big Sag 2008- Snowbank, Fraser, Thomas, Boulder, Adams, Alice, Numbered Lakes 2009- Moose, South Arm and back to Moose 2010- Cross Bay, Long Island, Frost Lake, Frost River, Tuscarora, Round. Prior to 2007 we did short trips around Seagull. There are usually six of us. We are right in between single portaging and double portaging. Our priorities and travel/explore new areas, solitude and lastly fishing. I am the only fisherman in the group. Any route suggestions are appreciated. I was thinking about putting in at LIS or Nina Moose and paddeling back to Moose. Is 7 or 8 nights enough to do that? |
