I had been looking at the hard anodized GSI Dutch oven, but the idea of being paranoid about it getting scratched seems to overshadow any advantages. Not that I beat my gear, but to not have to worry about it and save $40 in the process makes a lot more sense to me.
jwartman59	02/14/2012 11:57PM i clean my pots and pans with weeds and sand. a fancy anodized finish just won't be up to this.
Coda1	02/14/2012 09:36PM If you want anodized I would recommend hard anodize over the regular anodizing. Hard anodize is quite a bit thicker then standard anodize and is harder then most hardened steels. I have a set of MSR Duralite hardcoated pots and like the non stick properties of it.
butthead	02/08/2012 10:12AM I've used both, own plain aluminum. Does stick and stain a bit more but at home you can use drastic measures for cleaning that would remove any anodized surface coating. If you are used to cooking in cast iron remember that aluminum heats faster and cools off faster. butthead
Savage Voyageur	02/08/2012 09:27AM I would get the aluminum one because I use a scratchy scrub pad to clean and would damage the fancy anodized finish. Rocks, fire grate, utensils would also scratch it off. What is the advantage of the anodized finish besides lighten your wallet?
thlipsis29	02/08/2012 08:34AM I'm thinking about buying a GSI Outdoors aluminum Dutch oven and now my question is whether to buy the plain aluminum or the anodized version for $44 more ($75 vs. $119). I know in theory the advantages of anodized aluminum, but I'm curious how much of a difference it makes in the real world. Any feedback would be appreciated.
