If it's the 1.9oz, then it's, like, 4 lbs.
"

4lbs 12oz on my digital fish scale.

adding peaks and walls to the way you pitch it will greatly reduce the overall footprint of the tarp if you're concerned about it being to big.

Big and light. That's how I roll.

It was only needed one day in our week long trip, but it was needed in the worst way. We could have gotten by with something smaller but as newbies we wanted to error on the high side. "

Quick! Hide that picture before it leads to the commercialization of the BWCA.

I can see it now ... soon we'll be seeing half-price Kelty tarps with beer ads printed on them. Uffda!

15 x 15? Not too big at all. Even for a solo kit a 15 x 15 would be acceptable. For a group of 4, it's probably perfect.
RaisedByBears99 03/30/2012 12:02AM
If it is a good price - I'd get it. As long as it is light enough to pack. I've often felt my tarp was too small. I don't recall ever thinking it was too big.
OldScout48 03/26/2012 12:42PM
Do I hear $100. Who will give me $110.
BWPaddler 03/26/2012 12:30PM
Buy it. Try it. Sell it in an instant if it doesn't do what you need it to do. The line of buyers is already growing.

Too funny,

. 600 feet of kevlar rope and I can hang it out near in the middle of the lake :)
HowardSprague 03/26/2012 12:03PM
Especially if you tied it up with kevlar rope. :)
Drab 03/26/2012 11:35AM
That is funny schweedy.

JB - got it :)
schweady 03/26/2012 08:38AM
I know that if this was a 2012 Guide Gear 15x15, it would certainly NOT be too big... :)

I would only use it for car camping.

I also want one of these tarps.

I just put an ad on C's List for this dimension tarp.

My wife is girl scout leader and would love to get this tarp for the girls. Please let me know how to purchase if available. Thanks

I agree. It's big enough to set up with sides , or a wall against a slanting rain and so many more configurations. If I found a CCS at a deal I'd jump on it. I have a 16x16 and it is very handy for 4 people. We are not minimalists and basecamp alot."

I agree with the others, for the price it's a bargain. Buy it, use it and if it's not your cup of tea you can probably turn it for a samall profit and at least you will know what you really need from a CCS tarp.

Get lots of the CCS rope/cord and try different set-ups before you trip.
Drab 03/24/2012 07:04PM
I sent you an email.
jb in the wild 03/24/2012 06:39PM
Drab if you don't want it turn me on to that tarp I'll snap that up in a heart beat.

Drab 03/24/2012 04:40PM
I may not have been clear. It is a fair price for one that is hardly used. but not a screaming bargain to buy it "just because". $85

You seem like my kind of bargain hunter! I need to have a garage sale to make room for new bargains! I would be all over that tarp if the price was right. The only question for me is how big is IN my pack. If you're in a monsoon you're goingto love that tarp. CCS makes some nice stuff. Even if I didn't want to pack it i would get it for other adventures.!

I own one and use it when we have 4 or 6 folks. I like it and have found it works if you make it work.
Also use it car camping to set up to get in and out of the rain.
So I would buy it if you have the shillings.

Old Hoosier 03/24/2012 02:32PM
It is a big tarp, but a fair price is still a good value on a useful tool.

Tarps can do more than provide overhead cover. They can also be dropped for wind shelter as well as overhead cover. Sometimes you are expose to wind due to lack of "better" camp sites. If a wind and rain storm comes up, a larger tarp can be rigged to fully block wind and keep rain off you head as well.

And yes, large parties need larger tarps.

My choice is a 10X12 with a 10X10 spare for wind. As a fall paddler, it has often saved the day. Able to be by the fire versus locked in the tent until the weather breaks.

I think that would be a great size for 4-6 people, 10 x 10 is too small for that many and you could always stick some gear under it.
HowardSprague 03/24/2012 01:30PM
If it's a good deal, take it!

Will it work at every campsite? No. Will you take it on every trip? I doubt it. But it could be very handy if you're with a bigger group.
I have a 10x14. Used it for a group of seven and it was good...a few more feet of width would have been nice, but then I might not have been able to set it up in every situation.
Just because it's 15x15 doesn't mean you have to have it set up that way. Run a second ridgeline, tie/stake it down so one side is more of a vertical "wall", and it might fit while giving you some coverage from one side too. There are many ways to set one up.
Sides 03/24/2012 01:15PM
For me it would be too big. I have a 10x12, I wish it was 10x10. It is just my wife and I. We don't need a tarp that size. Most campsites don't have that much open space either. You would need 2 trees about 20 feet apart, give or take for the ridge line. Than tie out the corners out. That takes up a lot of space. so for me it is too big.

billconner 03/24/2012 01:09PM
I've never found my 10 x 10 too small - usually 2 people - 4 once but no rain - and one solo but no rain - so maybe if you might be 4-6, it's a good size. If you're all solo, feels unnecessarily to large to me, but not unusable.
Drab 03/24/2012 12:58PM
I am buying a pack from a guy. He also has a CCS 15x15 tarp that I could buy for a fair price. I am always tempted by bargains, but I wonder if I will find that to just be too big for bwca use?
