I hauled my Gobi pack out, and there's no doubt in my mind that POE makes that pack for Simms. The shoulder straps, waist belt, the whole suspension system is identical to the one in the picture from Cabela's web-site. I'd say the shoulder straps are about 3/8" to 1/2" thick. I've had my pack for about 3-4 years or so, at that time it looked like on-line retailers were discounting them and trying to move them. After last summers trip in August I thought about picking up another one, none of the on-line sites that POE has listed as carrying this pack had them, I finally had to call POE, they said they had stock and could ship me one. I didn't pull the trigger at that time, probably should have. Like I said it's a really nice pack, compact enough to fit in my Magic.

fraxinus: That Gobi looks nice, but how plush are the straps. There doesn't seem to be a good pic of the straps or suspension system.

Anything Simms is good. Hence the price.

I have no experience with this bag, but I do own a simms dry creek roll top. Very well made, and has been through a lot of tough trips. I would venture to say the dry creek pack would be a great choice. I have never had a bad simms product.

Meant to include a link to the POE bag. Gobi

It looks very much like a bag the Pacific Outdoor Equipment Gobi 84 bag that I have. It's the same lay out, has a second handle on the side, really nice feature. Very well made, comfortable harness, they're now hard to find, I have called POE and they will sell direct. They make a 60L and 84L bag. 60L is about 3660 cu.in., 84L is 5125. I wouldn't be surprised if POE is making them for Cabela's. Last time I checked POE's price on the 84L I'm pretty sure it was around $150. The body of the bag is tough stuff, coated nylon, much tougher than the PVC SealLine bags.

Watershed Animas

I would recommend any of the Watershed dry bags. Their closure is very easy to use. So you have have zip closure and roll top for back up. Very durable. I don't have the backpack but I do have two of the duffels so I can't comment on how comfy the straps are.

Actually a waterproof submersible dry bag, not just water resistant.

I was hoping someone in a metro area might have seen one in person. I'm not sure who carries Simms flyfishing gear or if Cabella's has this in-store? They do make quality gear imo.

I found a GG Immersion for $200 once, and now they are cropping up on CL sometimes. Love it, but agree it could have more handles on the outside.

On this one, I'd like to see in person how the suspension system is removable and confirm it will hold its weight. The shell/lining design would also be something I'd like to check out. I do like the shape.

Let us know if you bite and if you like it!

I was just looking at this pack also the other day. I like the haul loops on it. Ive tried different packs, GG Quetico, Exped Torrent, a CCS pack I cant remember the name of, and for me the best option has been a ULA Epic with a 50-65 Liter Dry bag like the STS Big River series in the harness. Light weight, fairly hardy, water proof as I think you can get, I like being able to mix and match the size of dry bags depending on what Im carrying. Its also the most comfortable since these are made for hiking also. Negative thing is that its expensive for what it is.

It looks like the second handle may be on the side facing the camera. silver material wrapped on the black strap maybe? I wonder what the vertical clearance ends up being when actually attached to your back, and if it would indeed clear the canoe yoke.

I have never seen or used one, but it looks nice. I wonder where the second external handle is?

My experience with similar bags is that the real capacity will be less than stated once you roll the top down three times.

Anyone familiar with this pack? Drypack

I'm looking for a smaller drypack with good straps for portaging with a canoe.
