Sorry Fitgers, I don't know for sure. I always use them when I go out of Crane. I am pretty sure Crane is. Loser t the Echo trail than Tower or Orr.
I also liked Joewildlife's idea for ya.

Joe, yes that's a good idea and I had thought of doing that. My reason for LaCroix is that I have not been up that way for several years and have not gone in on the Echo Tr from the west at all. Thought it would be nice to revisit it and show my lady and the two newbies some new country.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm leaving tomorrow for Ely and EP14. I changed the permit issuing station to Ely (kawishiwi) because Ely is a lot closer to EP14, than Cook. Ely has more amenities as well. So you have options if you decide not to stay around Cook. Joe

quote timatkn: "We stay on Crane at Voyageur Landing. We had the room in the photo in the top left. $75/night. THe room we had would be tight for more than 2 people though.

That's pretty sweet timatkn! I think that's a winner. The ladies will like that. How far up from the Echo Trail is Crane? About 10 miles? I haven't been there for many years. Thank-you

Vermilion motel in Cook is great. Clean comfortable rooms, great people to work with and the Country store is attatched to the motel. If you stay there be sure to eat at the Montana cafe in Cook. Awesome Breakfast and lunch.

We are permitting out of this station in August. I have never gone through this one before - always out of Ely or on the north shore.
Does anyone have any recommendations for places to stay the night in the Cook or Orr area the night before entry? Our EP for this trip is 14 (LIS north). I have found a couple places online but would like to hear your recommendations and experience with any of the local places to stay overnight. The ladies would like a room with a bathroom (so no bunkhouse). Cabins would be cool with a view of a lake maybe.
thanks and happy paddling!
