quote Doughboy12: "We do it all the time...not that that makes it right but we have never had a problem...but we walk from the entry point to the river. Our car is parked where the permit is submitted but I don't think that matters. The box is just a spot to put the permit. The permit should indicate your entry point...IMHO."

That's basically what I do too. I enter at the point of least resistance to the area I am traveling but put my slip in the closest box. Imagine having a water access cabin on Farm Lake and having to motor (or ski/snowshoe/walk) across, fill out a slip, motor back across, just to enter the BWCA from your back yard...life sure gets complicated sometimes! LOL!

Good question.

In the same vein, but since all the permits in the winter are self-issue, what is to prevent someone from going to the entry point, filling out the permit and submitting it there, then driving to a different spot for an easier access?
For instance, filling out the permit at Homer Lake, #40, then driving and parking along the road and traveling into Kinogami Lake, which is easier to get to from the road then from the entry point.

I know even in winter you are supposed to continue to enter the BWCA through the standard entry points, but in during this time of frozen waterways, etc. new possibilities are opened. Does anyone know if special permits/permission can be granted to enter the BWCA through non-designated entry points?
