I'd give yourself two days. One day to get north of Deadman's portage or past the first couple falls and the 2nd day go for Kawnipi.

Any idea how many days to get to Kawnipi from Cache Bay for a slow portaging solo traveller. As I'd probably be going for 3 weeks, don't have a kevlar canoe, and probably have more gear to portage than average (such as a clunky center seat) I generally have to make 3 trips per portage.

Always a great spot.

The Falls Chain in particular and water falls and rapids in general offer good fishing regardless of the time of year.

I experienced the best fishing of my life last summer midday on Kawnipi north of the last falls on the chain.

Thanks Trygve!

How about September?

we were there last year the the last week of may water was still pretty cold so the fishing was slow in that area.until we got tothe last falls into kawnipi.we couldnt make a cast with a 3inch yellow twister tail and not catch a big smallie or northern.then alittle ways down were the current started to slow we got 8 eater size walleyes in about an hour also let 2 over24" go along with another couple dozen smallies and northerns.the spring weather will determine water temps that time of year and it can really vary from lake to lake.one small lake we day tripped to had the bass making spawning beds already.if the fishings slow were your at just move to another area. if you hit it at the right time it wont really matter probably catch fish all day long.FYI got my biggest smallie ever under the 3rd falls in the chain 5 yrs ago 22 inches she was released to fight another day .we are headed for the man chain the 1st week of june this year.good luck

The walleye fishing should be really good. The weather should be warm during the day and cool at night.

However, i would go after the smallies if they were the only thing biting at the time.

Has anyone fished the falls chain during the last week of May. I might be heading up there this year during that week or during mid june. How is the pike/smallie/walleye fishing during late May. We will be mostly after pike and walleyes. How would the fishing compare between late may and mid june? What are the temps like during late may?
Thanks for any info
