We're thinking about a family fishing trip to the Ely area and may have narrowed it to these lakes. It'll be late August or early Sept. Any fishing tips or resorts where we can rent a cabin you recommend?

We may take a day trip to the BW somewhere but most of it will be out of boats looking for walleye, bass, northern, etc.

I've stayed at Silver Rapids many, many, many times going back to the late 60's when I was a kid. If you want to send me an email I'll see if I can dig up a map of the area that I marked for good fishing spots on those lakes. Also, don't be afraid to get a canoe from a local outfitter (if you end up at Silver Rapids don't bother with their resort canoes), tow it up to the Farm Lake EP, and go on a couple of daytrips. A trip up the North K to the long 220 rod Murphys portage is about a 2 hour paddle, it's a great spot for lunch plus there's a waterfall hidden behind the small pond about 1/3 of the way up the portage that's very pretty. I've also had my wife drop me off at the Little Gabbro portage and then solo'ed all the way back to the Farm Lake EP through Clear Lake in an afternoon where she picked me up again in the boat.
