Looking at a trip the week of Memorial Day. Looking to travel in one day, base camp, catch enough walleye to eat, and spend the rest of the time fishing smallies. Would a better trip be to Agnes/Boulder Bay Area or Knife Lake? We did Boulder Bay two years ago. Have never been towards Knife. Thanks for any help.

Both are great areas, the only downsize is that both areas will be busy on Memorial Day weekend. Campsites might be at a premium.

Moose River to Agnes

LIS to Shell

S Kawishiwi/Gabbro area

Mudrio to Fourtown, Horse or Gun.

Lots of options, but to walllee's point it could be busier with the holiday weekend.

I have done both trips at that time of year. Knife has never kicked out the walleye as well as Boulder Bay. Good luck.

I just checked the Rec.gov site. 5-20,5-31 only have 2 and 5 permits left for Moose river North (16) Every permit is booked back to the 14th. Which kinda sucks for me since we are heading there on the 24th to LLC. Secret is out I guess.

Last Memorial weekend we went to Knife from Snowbank, looping down through Fraiser/Thomas before back out SB. That was a great trip. Big fish caught on Knife and not a lot of people seen until we got to Thomas. One of my favorite trips regardless of the poor weather we had. I would go back to Knife in a heartbeat, but not from Snowbank. The portages from Boot-Ensign,Ensing-Vera, Vera-Knife we're some challenging single portage hikes. A tow up Moose and couple hours paddle you are on Knife.

Yea I don't know what I was thinking. After looking at the available permits we've decided to head north and go in to Quetico through Nym. Might have to pack a few lake trout lures.

Don't get me wrong, I love Knife. We've enjoyed our trips there, especially in late May/early June. Caught nice northern, bass and trout. But we've never hammered the walleye on that lake. Either trip would be awesome for sure.
