This is what I get for not fishing for six years: I get an itch so bad that I fritter the winter concocting ever fuller fishing days. So, for the ninth day of my trip, I've mapped out ten lakes. I'll awake on one, fish seven in passing, which means I'll stop the car, go down to a lake, cast a dozen or so times, and roll on. I'll unload the canoe to fish a lake at mid-day and come evening, I'll unload again and fish another two. Considering I'll only be casting a dozen or so times in half a dozen lakes, I probably won't catch fish in everyone, but considering it's Canada, I'll have a chance. What's the most lakes you've ever fished in a day?

Two or three at the most on a canoe trip. I've never done a road trip like you described. I like to learn the lake I'm fishing. It teaches me new things on the same lake. If I had time on the way out from a canoe trip I would like to try this. Trouble is I trip with between 6-8 guys and it's like hearding cats to get everyone on the same page. They all just want to go home after a trip.

I hear ya. I couldn't do it with most of my fishing buddies.

They'd say, "No more stops!"

9 in one day. In the fall I have a milk run of small trout lakes that can be fished effectively from shore and they are really close to each other. I dialed it back after that day and I only fish 3or4 in a day now to fish them a little more effectively.

After I've been seven days on a canoe trip, that means I have been gone for nine days and it still takes a day to get home, by then I miss my wife and I'm ready to be home no stops except food or gas. To me stopping any time to cast my line ten or twelve times at a half dozen different unknown lakes would be no fun at all. I fish to relax and catch fish, and for me that strategy would not work for either.

Man......those are stellar...........

I think I need to come up there and trout fish, and you need to come down here and smallie fish. I think a Winter Float and Fly trip on Dale Hollow :) .

there were a few over 6 caught this year. the fishery is getting better :)

We throw pounders back. :) :) .

you can get into some seriously nice crappie. I've caught them to 2lbs while bass fishing. I don't target them often, but when I do, I usually catch some nice ones.

Last week, while fishing for bass, we ended up catching 31 hybrid striped bass. Talk about pulling your arm off :) .

Later,

Geo

Ah, seems like I read that somewhere.

My wife and I spent the last year doing a full remodel of our downstairs. We are in a bi-level and the downstairs had some water issues.

* Totally replaced all the drain tile.
* Waterproofed the outside
* To the studs demo.
* Took out a support wall, added 18ft lvl header
* 6ft double pocket doors.....Oh hell yea.
* New electrical panel
* New wiring downstairs
* Multimedia wiring, RG-6, Fiber, CAT-6.
* New bamboo Flooring
* New trim
* Trey ceiling touched up with crown molding.
* Lift pump in outside stairwell, with battery backup and warning system.

New furniture up and downstairs.

Man, just thinking about it makes me tired.

BUT we love it.......

Later,

Geo

I admit ten lakes is a larky, goofy thing to do, but such foolishness makes me laugh.

I never thought of that. Now I'll have to give it a shot. I used to go "road fishing" for spring panfish and hit those dirt road ma and pa spots in May. Usually just 3 or4 lakes though. BP, trout from shore is a good idea.

MissMolly, you have more discipline than me. I don't know if I could go to a new lake and only make 10 casts. Each one would call to me, tease me with secrets and the possibility of what lies beneath.
Your trip sounds incredible. Enjoy!

I couldn't leave each lake if it weren't the siren song of the next lake and the lake beyond that.

Say, off topic, I had something nice happen to me. I'm a workaday writer, banging out copy to keep my house lighted, but I just sold an essay to a top tier magazine with a 99% rejection rate. What makes it especially sweet is that it's about me pappy, who turns 86 this summer, so he'll get to puff up like a tom turkey and flash his feathers.

Since they can be so shallow at that time of year, you can really do well from shore and then be on to the next lake in a hurry.

Thanks, guys. I dedicated a book to him and got him on the front page of the Minneapolis Star once, but I think the coming essay will be his favorite because it's about finding an abandoned fishing camp and how we felt about sitting there and reading the abandoned guest book.

Good point, BP!
