Watched a pair of Loons that were visiting Lake Pepin today. Not unusual , but their stays are very short and are are precursor to mushroom season. Maybe I'll see this pair this spring up north.

Feller claims to have seen a loon in the Kewaunee Wi harbor the other day.
My wife claims to have seen a robin.
Everyone has seen and heard Sandhill cranes right now.
but it is a cold damp cloudy day with an east wind off the big pond.
one true sign of spring is that my BWJ came.
I feel sorry for the HS ball players here.. and their few spectators.

Spring? Well, the maple sap has started flowing (I am boiling as I write), the pine grosbeaks have headed back to Ontario (they winter in northern Minnesota), and the river is flowing over and under the ice. I still have almost a foot of snow on the ground, but its days are limited...

Lots of signs here in Madison... Have been seeing robins for close to a month now, the red-winged black birds are back in swarms, lots of sandhills, and some loons moving through!

That the snow pack is going down a little and I can rely on Mother Nature to take away her April Fool Gift for the most part

Two feet of white. Maybe.. Thats what is fickle about April.. Maybe snow maybe rain.

Grackles and Red wing black birds showed up yesterday. There was one very confused Canada goose flying over. I'm not sure where he is finding open water. I still have plenty of snow on the ground but it is going away. Oddly, I have seen robins all winter. Can't wait till I hear the white throated sparrow calling me north.

I sure miss the call of the Loons in the spring time in NW, MN.

But here I am living in Yurt in Ak.
Life is good but I miss home when I hear everyone talking about Loons.

"When it's Springtime in Alaska it's 40 below "
But it's starting to thaw now, less than two feet of snow in the woods.
Bears are starting to stir a littlr now, saw two piles of bear scat on my last hike.
Here is a couple pics from the other day's adventures.

I'm itching to canoe the Kenai River in the second pic when it thaws a little more.

We had no real winter here in central Michigan and now we seem to be getting not much of real spring. Today at least we have some sunshine. Another chilly morning.

Birds are making lots of racket around here and the goofy cardinal is beating on our window daily again. He does it every spring.
