Was looking for something a little easier this year than Boot and Gun lake so we decided on Disappointment. Now after doing a little more research I'm not seeing the good fishing reports I was hoping to find on walleye from previous years. I'm going in mid week late May, are the walleyes on the chow or should I look for other lake options? I've done extremely well on my prior trips into Boot and Gun so I may be a little spoiled.

We are starting our June trip on Disappointment this year. Last time there in 2015 we did well on walleyes. We were going to do a loop up thru Ensign but did so well fishing on Disappointment we decided not to leave. We found walleyes on muddy bottoms around the islands. We would troll rapalas until we bumped into them and then would break out the bobbers and leeches. One day my canoe partner and I caught over 40 during the middle of the day as they were super active. Some days were a tad slower but we managed to have enough for dinner 3 nights feeding 6 guys. We also caught plenty of smallmouth and we were able to land a few decent pike as well with one over 40 inches.

Check out the trip report that I created.

Disappointment can be a hot or cold lake. You just gotta look for them, they might not be in the same spot form year to year. As the previous poster said it has some nice fish in it so don't let previous reports get ya down. It has Smallmouth and you can always catch them if all else fails. I think the southern end has a few largemouth as well. I haven't caught largemouth personally though.

Looking better and better...thank you.

Any tips on campsites to target? We're going in on a Wed...we find its easier to get on sites.

Once I saw pics of some big eyes taken from next door Parent Lake. From DNR testing of the lake. Maybe worth a side trip one day. Not as appealing visually as Disappointment, just a bowl, but there are some beauties in there.

I loved the most northern camp site on the east side, just north of the last island site. Great views felt secluded form the other camps even though the lake is busy, but that lake is busy I'd take the first camp that is open. I've heard of people not getting a site and having to move on to Jordan or Ima.

Campsite 2085...I think it is the first one on the south side of the lake SE of the big island. That is the one we stayed at and although I have limtied experience in the BWCA it fit our group of 6 very well. The group I tripped with also likes the island campsite which is the first one you come to after the portage from Snowbank.

Good point about how busy the lake can be. There are definitely fish in it, but I've paddled through it more times than one without seeing an empty campsite. Mid-May might be easier to find an opening, but it's a good fishing lake that's an easy day into the Bdud.

And timatkn, I also have great memories at that site. It's where I asked my wife to marry me. (Yes, I chose "Disappointment" Lake on purpose. :)

Very busy lake by bwca standards. I've had some of the best eye fishing ever on it and some nofish days fishing on it. The biggest problem I have is getting a campsite.
