Anyone use Purinize Purifier drops? They claim to purify water naturally, with no chemicals... not just killing microorganizms, but also removing chemicals from industrial or agricultural runoff. I've seen some positive "reviews" on the internet, but I am skeptical as to their authenticity.
If they work as they claim, it's a pretty neat concept, but I'm not sure what it does to microbugs - I've only been able to find how it removes dissolved chemicals and particulates from the water... which you then have to filter anyway.
Anyway, that was one of the items in the Cairn box this month, which is heavily focused on hydration this month. The hydration bladder looks to be an interesting design which I think will help make it easier to get it in and out of a pack.
It looks to be a "flocculent", which means it causes particles to glob together.
I think most city water treatment plants use a course filter, then a flocculent, remove debris, and then they use a chemical treatment (chlorine and/or other stuff).
In the end you can't really use the flocculent by itself - you'd have to use a filter afterwards, but I can see where this would allow you to use a less fine filter with excellent results (getting rid of the teeny tinies). I assume this would mean you'd have faster filter rates then.
flocculent and coagulant, and a couple words I didn't recognize were part of the not-terribly-deep description of the method. It does clump particulates and chemicals dissolved in the water. Do those methods also work on micro-orgs?
One review I read said that they recommended that you dip, filter (sawyer mini), treat, and strain through a coffee filter to remove the clumps.
Sounds like a lot more work than pumping it through my First Needs purifier. definitely a lot more time.
