Hello BWCA experts! I'm leading a group of 4 of us to either Caribou or Little Caribou Lake in early June and this is an area I have never been to before. Plan A is the Little Caribou campsite, but since I'm reading it's often times taken, our plan B is one of the eastern campsites on Caribou.

Would anyone who has fished these lakes please provide tips for catching walleyes? What part of the lake should we concentrate on? The only live bait we plan to bring are leeches. I have heard that walleye fishing on Caribou is good, but haven't seen much as far as specific locations or tips.

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

We stayed on the last site on the east side of Caribou. Amazing site. Not great fishing from the campsite though. We caught walleye near the shore across from camp on leeches along with bass and np. I had on a 35 inch plus pike that ate a 9 inch smally I was reeling in but she spit it before I could get her in the boat. Try to get that site or the one in little Caribou. We didn't catch any walleye in little Caribou but fishing looks good from that camp. Be sure to go into pine or pike Lake whichever it is connected to little Caribou via portage and hike back into joshnson Falls.

Ditto on the far east campsite on caribou. Stayed 3 nights in 2014. Dynamite site. And yes, don't miss johnson falls. Gotta find the billie goat trail (across the stream from the portage and back in the woods a bit, if memory serves). 3 level waterfall. Bring a swimsuit.

For walleyes on Caribou, I'd focus on the narrowest pinch on the lake. Depth goes from 25-30' up to 4-6'. You'll have to experiment with depth to find them, but you should get them in the evening with jigs or slip bobbers.

Also work the point on the north shore of the west end of the lake at dawn and dusk for walleye. There are 4 campsites on that side. The point is between 3 & 4 as you go east into caribou. Jigs/slip bobbers and leeches. (and crawlers)

Had a buddy tell me they fished from land at the point on the south side of the pinch and caught smallies on everything they threw out there.

Good luck
