New version Dragonfly pump.
Older style Dragonfly pump.
New versio regular pump, works with Whisperlite, Simmerlite, Firefly, XGK.
Older style regular pump, works with Whisperlite, Simmerlite, Firefly, XGK.
Even older pumps are yellow and white but are too old for use. The new pumps are made with a much stronger nylon impregnated plastic and highly recommended for regular use. The older are more fragile and tend to break at the lugs.
The Dragonfly has a larger diameter fuel line connection than the standard stoves.
Used MSR stoves are very reliable and repairable, but I'd recommend buying a new style pump for it's dependability. The new versions are as reliable as the Primus aluminum body pumps, cheaper to replace and to rebuild.

PS: The old Dragonfly pump pictured is another old regular pump. The old Dragonfly has a blue pump body but looks just like that. Just checked, no photo though. bh

I sure think so. When I'm looking for a used MSR the stove condition is unimportant, if it includes a new style pump and bottle. The 2 are worth $50 without the stove.

Depending on what model of stove you are looking for it is almost better to buy new then trying to buy a used stove and a new pump for it. I have seen the MSR Dragonfly stoves going for quite a bit even without a pump for them. Add on the price of a new pump plus shipping for both of them and you might as well buy new. Besides the pumps Butthead has pictured there is a light blue pump for the Dragonfly stove. As he stated the older pumps have more problems with the plastic breaking compared to the new ones. Although I have seen a problem with the new Dragonfly pumps breaking on the part where you place your thumb to pump it up. Part of the thumb pad area will break off. I have seen this happen on several pumps.

New Dragonfly with pump no bottle, $100 and up.
New Dragonfly or standard pump, $30 and up around $40.
If I can find a used dragonfly under $50 including shipping, it's worth buying to me. But I have a pile of MSR stoves and parts and lots of time spent working with them. They are very simple stoves, easy to strip and clean, the only pieces that can wear in normal use are the fuel filter, jet, priming wick.
I do keep my pumps in the bottle and make covers for the from plastic soda empties.

I am looking for a dragonfly stove and did a quick search for a new pump and found them for around $30. Your right about the shipping raising the price Old fingers but I think there's still some wiggle room compared to a new one. The soda bottle cover looks like a good Idea. Some of those bottles seem pretty solid at least when they have the bottoms still attatched.

Butthead thanks for the picture.
Just got my first MSR and plan on leaving the pump in the bottle and was concerned with the pump plunger handle getting caught on something. Your picture of a plastic bottle protector looks like a good solution

Something I forgot to mention.
The Dragonfly pumps have a shut off valve at the fuel line attachment, the standard does not. I keep my pumps in a bottle with the bottle cover, but if you use a standard pump and open the valve a bit it will let fuel out, the Dragonfly pump will not.
