Last week I set up my BA Emerald 3 without the tent body to look at where the fly is leaking. I found that all the seam tape is crumbling horribly. So I ordered some SeamGrip and left it set up. I got off work yesterday and looked in the backyard and my tent was gone. We had gusts up to 30 mph yesterday morning while I was at work. My son and I drove up and down nearby streets and alleys looking for it to no avail. After work I looked a bit further away and still nothing. So when I got home from work I started looking at new tents. About an hour and a half ago my next door neighbor called and said he saw my tent wrapped around a tree 2 blocks away. For some reason I didn't think it would have gotten across our busy main drag/state hwy, but it did. I raced right over there in the pouring rain and took it apart and threw it in the back of my truck. Whoever lives there bungied it to a tree in his or her yard. I will have to drop in sometime and thank them. It's now hanging out to dry in my garage and I can assess any damage tomorrow. Damn....now I can't justify a new tent.

That sounds like something that would happen to me, minus finding the tent. I would absolutely keep that tent for wingnights, nobody's gonna beat that story...;-)

I was on a wildfire out west and lost my tent.
I can't remember if it was due to a helicopter or a wind storm, but when I returned to base camp at the end of a day on the fire line, my tent was wrecked and a few hundred yards away from where I left it that morning.
I was able to cobble it together for the remainder of my deployment, but it was junk.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

Hope somebody got it on video!
Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

This story reminds me of some boy scout encampments in big open fields on a windy day. Dome tents would go rolling by like tumbleweeds.... Unless you had really beefy stakes or enough weight in the tent...it would go gone in short order.

I was camping next to a wind farm with the giant mills. They put those wind farms in places with lots of wind, duh.
I was in an A-frame Timberline tent and the wind came directly towards the side of the tent. In the middle of the night, the tent poles folded and the tent collapsed.
I sent the broken tent back to Timberline and they replaced it (they protested a bit, but they did replace the tent free).

Glad you found it, sorry you can't buy a new one now.
20 years ago we set up our NorthFace VE 23 to dry and only used 1 or 2 stakes. Went to work, it got windy, came home to find it missing. It rolled several blocks, and luckily got caught behind a 3 foot high cement barrier. A few more feet and it would have gone into the wide deep channel leading to the lake. Even luckier, the only "injury" was a few scraped holes along the pole sleeves, which was easily taped.

Hopefully your tent survived......A few years ago we had a 4th of July party at our house with the option of sleeping over. About 8 tents were set up when a large storm came in causing all kinds chaos. One dome tent was pulled up from its stakes, flew over the peak of our two story house and didn't touch down until it was over the road about 100 yards away.......................................The sleepover was canceled for all tents.

My buddy and I were winter camping along Lake Superior shore at Split Rock. Since it was winter and few trees around we thought the weight of our gear would be enough, it wasn't. Luckily the wind hadn't taken our tent all the way out into the lake. We managed to find more weight and it held for the two nights we were there.

Yeah, the wind really picks stuff up at times. Our troop had a number of 10x12 grey poly dining shelters with conduit frames. We were at a site on the shore of Many Point Lake. Wind picked it up and blew it a half a block into the woods. It was staked down as well.

A few years ago I had got one of these on sale during the fall,
Come spring Mrs Firemedic decided that she wanted to have garage sale, her sisters immediately jump in on this mess.. Of course rain is scheduled during the big event and my wife say's "Hey you bought that huge screen house last year"... Thus against my better judgment I get roped into putting it up; I stake it down at all legs, and corners with guide lines running out,,,, yes it was tied down, doors were even closed.. The next day I work starts @ 0700, with wind advisories of over 40 mile an hour gusts forecasted. . Her sister decided to open up all the doors on the windward side (Long side). Screen house goes airborne, SIL grabs it by a center roof truss, she goes airborne with the new 1400+CuFt parasail, they drift as a unit across the street, landing in a huge pile. My wife then calls me and tells me what happened, and that she isnt sure if I can fix it.. When I got of shift the next day I tossed the busted up mess in the back of my truck, evidently my SIL had hobbled away.. I went about the day, my wife and her sister finished up the garage sale. Later that day my wife calls me all happy to inform me that she made $150 on the garage sale.. I didn't get any points when I said, "Thats awesome, how many hours did you put into that goat F...k, what did you make an hour,,,, BTW you do realize that I spent $350 for that screen house that's trashed now"
On the plus side, she has not had the wild air up her, cough, to have another garage sale.

I saw a tent tumbling down the road by my old house once, guy a few houses down was drying it out and the wind picked up and sent her flying. His tent was pretty banged up, broken poles and a few good rips.

Admit it, that's what you really wanted all along!
Have fun buying the replacement!

Don't throw the poles or the body of the tent away though. As I know some people in the past have been looking for the poles or the body to buy.

I haven't thrown any of it away yet. Took all the tie downs cordage off the fly yesterday, saving the footprint for resale, saving the garage vestibule for resale and I'm keeping the DAC poles for parts. The tent body is good, but like the fly, the seam tape on the floor is degraded and will have to be redone. Not real pleased with BA's seam taping. Ordered a new tent (Marmot Limelight 3) yesterday. I'm going to miss my big attached garage.

I have a BA EM3 also and it has been going strong now for about 10 yrs. Knock on wood nothing happens to it. Although I did get a Copper Spur UL3 to use when backpacking and have relegated the Emerald Mtn to use for canoe trips.

I have the same set up as you had, although I don't have the footprint for it. I just use a piece of tyvek cut to the shape of the tent plus floor coverage in both vestibules. My wife and I love the large add on vestibule when we canoe the Lower Wisconsin river as there is no place to hang a tarp. So we use the vestibule to put all of our gear into.
