Planning on a Lake Superior trip this summer and last time we were there in August we got hit with some 36 hours of very cold wet weather......brrrr.

This year all my time will be spent on Superior as opposed to the inland lakes and getting cold has become something which has my attention. I could go with long underwear and pants but that sounds uncomfortable for lengthy periods and then these sort of got my attention.

Very nice. Micro fleece but with a durable outer shell of sorts. Thick and durable enough to wear "as is". Excellent for lounging about camp as well. Very satisfied.

If you like those but want a bigger selection, go to Cabela's or Mack's Prairie Wings and shop for underwader pants. Belt loops, pockets, foot stirrups and adjustable cuffs on some models.......Could be handy. Mostly waterfowl products so I hope you like marsh camo

Maybe the term "underwader" might throw some folk. When you look at these you don't think, "oh, those look like you would wear them under a pair of waders". Rather these are like a Corvette version of sweat pants. Super comfy, EZ on and off and yet durable enough to take some abuse. And of course they look good which doesn't hurt a thing.

I've never found pants+long underwear uncomfortable. That's what I wear every day all winter long and it's what I wear when I get cold on trips too.

I don't know what the outside material is like on those pants but if I was going to buy something along those lines I think I'd be looking at some sort of lined pant designed for winter usage in order to get double duty out of them. Maybe something like this from Rail Riders: https://www.railriders.com/men-lined-kodiak-pants-p-1064.html?cPath=104_110

Big fan of Railriders Alan although I am looking at Kiui pants to replace my Weather pants which finally bit the dust.

I drink lots and lots of water on any trip and that means lots of usage of my handy dandy cut down bleach bottle which is misnamed as a "bailer".

Pants mean zippers and then onto the long underwear........can you say "hassle"? These Orvis duds are sort of like sweatpants and pants all rolled into one. And quick EZ "no hassle" access for relief. Ahh......

But why stop there? I can easily wear these into the lodge at Rock Harbor and even around on the patio at home if we get a rare chilly evening. The point is they are nice or I wouldn't post them. Probably not for most folks, after all they are a bit pricey.......but somebody might like them.

For that money, you could get yourself 8-10 pair of quilted pant liners at your favorite military surplus supply spot. Warm. Nice and smooth slipping your waders on and off, too.

Do you wear the 8 - 10 pair of quilted pant liners at the same time or alternate? Stylish enough to wear into the Rock Harbor lodge for dinner?

I don't fly fish but I like the stuff Orvis puts out. Expensive yes but I everything I have picked up from them I still have and have enjoyed using.

Stylish enough for the Rock Harbor Lodge? Is that really a thing to worry about? LOL

You got me......I concede the point. How about I rephrase the statement......"stylish enough for Paradise inn" ;-)

I got them for their practical application......but by George they look good to which doesn't hurt a thing.

OK, so how are these different from the $12 pair at Walmart. Is it the "under wader" branding?

No difference but the name Orvis is stitched in which makes it lots better. Just go with the Wally World model.

For crying out loud......post a nice piece of technical gear which costs more than what you can get at an army surplus and the naysayers come out of the woodwork.

In my defense in your OP I didn't realize you had already bought the pants. I thought you were asking advice.

Naw just passing on what I felt was a very nice piece of gear. No worries. I could of gotten by with other options I already own but I envisioned sitting in a canoe on Lake Superior for 20 something days putting in long hours fishing and paddling and sort of instinctively recognized I wasn't outfitted "just exactly right".

These may be mis-marketed as an "underwader" pant as I have no intention of using them as such. Rather they are ideal for a cool weather pant of sorts except more comfy than actual pants. They will also be ideal for morning and evenings around camp. I will probably live in them for the trip.......we will see how abrasion resistant they are.

In the 48" waist, 25" inseam, BP? That'd make you "swagger" down the street . . .

I first read that as "underwater pant". I thought "hell, all my pants will do THAT".

Nobody bats an eye when I wear them in hip spots like Zorbaz on Little Pine. But then, it's late. I've got six walleye and they've had six Bud Lites. :-)

Zorbaz........I like it! Sounds like a good spot. Probably better than the freak show "Winners Circle" dive I hung out in as a kid (Hey, they had a pool table).........I would close the place, then put my camo gear on in the back and go predator call for a few hours in the dead of winter. Yup, nobody batted an eye there either ;-)
