Anyone been into Trap Lake in the southeast corner of Crocodile? Looks like there's a portage but no established campsites. The MN DNR Lakefinder shows it as a depth of 7' so it probably winter kills. I was thinking that it might be a good side trip if I get up there this summer. If nothing else a fun adventure and possibly a spot to catch a bunch of minnows to use on the walleyes in Croc.

Any info out there?

tried finding this portage one day to no avail. take a look at google maps at Trap lake, looks like it's becoming an algae pond or bog or something. not sure i'd waste my time going there when you could more easily explore the vegetable lakes off the east end of crocodile

Yes, looks like a swamp, not a lake:

Thanks for the advice. I noticed the Google Maps image looked pretty green. Probably won't even try. We went through the Vegetable lakes last time we were in there. What a nice bunch of small lakes with tons of wolf and moose sign.

I've been there 3 or 4 times. There isn't much to the lake, and there is a good bit of vegetation. The portage starts up a steep rock face, making it hard to see. The trail is pretty rough with big boulders to step around. I only have a photo from the winter, it would have made a good name the lake.

that's really cool! i DID start up that rock face and walked for a bit and figured there was no way that was the portage. did i miss out on something fun?

Mocha, You didn't miss much. I went in during the winter first, it probably made the trail easier to see.

I've been told that back in the day they would trap minnows out of the lake, but that seems like a lot of work.

When I looked at the satellite photo that was the first thing I thought of. I could bring the minnow trap and get some local bait.
