Which route is faster to Lowerbasswood Falls/Crooked lake
Paddling from Mudro or Getting a tow to the top of the motor area in Basswood then paddling/portaging the rest of the way?
Gone through Mudro a few times, but I'm curious about the Fall lake tow option.

Even if the fall lake tow option took you over portages to basswood lake you still have the horse (1 mile) portage. Mudo is the common and easier way to go. We've got there in a day. I'm not familiar with that shuttle.

I'd say Mudro. One of my favorite routes.

Ben (Nctry) is right. Even with the Fall lake to Basswood tow, Fall Lake is longer and more portage rods.
Mudro to Lower Bw Falls - 10+ miles - 547 rods in 8 portages ( only 1 is over 100 rods)
Fall to Lower Bw Falls - 17+ miles - 712 rods including the 360 rod, Horse portage.
As Aldy1 said - Mudro is probably the best choice.

We usually make it to LBF 8-9 hours and we are not rushing but keeping steady pace eating snacks for lunch.

We originally had a Mudro permit, but had to change to a fall lake permit because of some date conflicts...we will be hitting the water at 7am and getting the packsack tow to the paddle only line. On avaerage, how many hours to LBF (two guys, double portaging)? Is it a reasonable day one goal?

Will you be overnight at packsack? Been going with them now for several years. Gene / Jane are great folks. They have a really nice place as well. They will take good care of you.

Last year, our group overnighted just inside the Paddle-Only Zone on Jackfish Bay and the next morning made it to LBF in about 6 hours. Horse Portage was long, but not really difficult. YMMV.

+1. It's possible to make it in 6 hours or so if water levels cooperate.
