Looking at a Quetico 17 that has had an inside patch repair done on it.

It's a 2014 rental and the asking price is $1525.

Edit to add:

This will primarily be used at home for the family to paddle around and fish. Would like to be able to take it to the BWCA fishing once or twice a year also.

Do these patches hold up?

Would you feel comfortable tripping with it?

I'm not very knowledgeable about these things. I have paddled a Q17 and other kevlars and like the Q17.

It's probably structurally sound but I bet you can get it cheaper than that.

I'd have no problems with paddling that canoe with that patch. I have a Wenonah Sundowner that has fiberglass patches all over it from an assortment of injuries and it floats just fine.

not commenting on the price, just the soundness of it.

We have a Wenonah Spirit II ultra light Kevlar. Once a big man was sitting on the floor and Linda was in the bow and I was in the stern. We were on a sandy river and pushing off from the bank. A couple of strong young men thought they would help us and lifted the canoe from the stern. I was trying to scream no but it was too late. The thin Kevlar cloth split but no damage was done to the structure or the bottom. I patched it with fiberglass cloth and the patch looks bad but we have paddled it at least 1,000 miles since then and it is fine. The patch on the one you are looking at may be just patching the cloth material.

canoe looks fine. I'd paddle it anywhere.

Well, I pulled the trigger and bought it! I'm pretty excited to get the kiddos out on the water this summer!!!!!

Sad to say that, aside from vehicles, this is the most expensive thing I have ever purchased. Hoping it will last a long time and get my kids into paddling.

Well done.

I used to immediately walk away from used boats with patched kevlar, but these look well done, like the scars that I bear as reminders of the necessary work done by a good surgeon. Was this from an outfitter? They usually know what they're doing when performing patch work and it's as strong as the original. With SR17s, I've learned that it's the 'pancaking' cracks along the sides that are the most worrisome.

Happy paddling!

Thanks.

Bought it from La Tourrelles. Bob was nice to work with. Hoping to pick it up soon.

My 1st voyage with it will be into Thomas and Fraser.

Enjoy! I bought a SR17 back in 2003 because I thought it would be stable for my young kids-and it was. Still have the boat, and my middle daughter wants to "buy" it from me (e.g.: "Dad, please do not sell it and gift it to me!") as she has a lot of great memories associated with it. She will get the boat once I buy a new tandem, and I know it is a safe one for her to learn in. You will not regret your purchase!
