Doing a weeklong solo trip to crooked fishing first week of June.
My first trip solo . I bought a prism canoe and thinking about what I should do to insure it fishes well. I 'll fish walleye and smb. I have used a drift sock in the past with our 17' Pennobscot. Thinking a smaller one would do for the solo? Also I see an anchoring system being sold for kayaks that changes your anchor position by moving the anchor point with pulleys? Also thinking of shooting thru the hull instead of using the suction cup....read the past posts on that about silicone and plumbers putty....what say you. What else should I consider? Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Your first solo boat? If so I wouldn't do a whole lot except rig the depth finder and rig a rod holder. Although a Prism is a good sized solo you may find that doing such things as anchoring and using a drift sock may not work as well as in a tandem.

And you might not feel as obligated to anchor or otherwise slow your drift as solos tend to grab lots less wind........besides, if it is windy enough to require a drift sock you might feel a tad uncomfortable deploying a drift sock in the first place........... I know I would be a bit skittish about doing so in my solo...........I use neither anchor nor drift sock and seem to do OK.

So, before drilling a bunch of holes just take the boat out for one BWCA or Quetico trip and size up its capabilities first.........then you will know what would be best depending on how you like to fish. That is my 2 cents.

Agree with MT, especially on such a fine boat as a Prism. If there is some stuff you know you want, build a "command center" that has clamp on brackets to see what you like and what you would tinker with. It is a fun project and doesn't commit you to holes in the boat. There are lots of plans and iterations on this site. I have a Wenonah wilderness (probably should have gotten a Prism) and I have experimented with wind socks and anchors a bit. With enough slack in the line, anchoring is pretty safe, just aren't always pointed where you might want to cast. If you have Kevlar, shoot through the hull works great, but not so much with other composites. Have fun. Post pictures.
