Hello! This will be our 5th year up in the BWCA with about 4-6 of us, we are looking to go towards the end of August and are looking for suggestions for routes. Right now we narrowed it down to EP14 and head either to lynch or up into Loon Lake towards eugene and fat. OR leaning a little more towards entering at mudro (would probably get the 22 permit) and head up the dead end route to the west of Fourtown and try to camp on Beartrap. Catching smallies is what we are after but will not pass up opportunities for walleye and pike. Looking for fishing suggestions on these areas as well was input on these routes. If you have other ideas for EP we are open to suggestions! Thanks for the help!

Beartrap is nice, lots of solitude, but I don't think the smallies found it yet. At least we did not catch any. Nice walleyes though. Gun Lake had lots of smallies. Don't be afraid of Gun's clear water, fishing was still rather easy. Gull is another nice lake with a great campsite across from the Gun portage. I really like that whole area, probably my favorite.

Since Mudro permits are already few & far in between, you should check & see when there may be one open. If none when you are thinking of going, then I guess you have your decision already. :-)

Still permits left for Mudro 22 at the very end of August but you should decide very quickly because they might not be there later. You can check availability here: https://www.recreation.gov/permits/Boundary_Waters_Canoe_Area_Wilderness/r/permitCalendar.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=72600

Thank you! Ended up buying a permit into Mudro for EP 22.
