Going to be doing the Gunflint - North - South - Rose - Duncan route in a few weeks (late May).
Mainly targeting Lake Trout, but would go after anything that is biting. It it worth taking leeches for smallies or walleye?
I've never been in this area.
Anyone have any recommendations on spots/areas we should focus on?
Or maybe areas we should avoid?
Thanks!

Did that route last May. We hammered LT on South lake. I wouldn't bother with Leaches in May, but would focus on trolling for Lakers with flutter spoons (I like orange/gold or silver/blue Little Cleos) and casing crank bates, poppers and plastics for Smallies in warm (think south facing) bays.

Have fun!

So, are there any weird south facing bays on the US side? We won't be on the Canadian side.

thanks!

n/m. Just pulled up the map, and see that there are some south facing bays on the US side.

Any pointers on Lake Trout? Where you trolling across the middle? Off the shore line?

Thanks!

Just off the shore line where it begins to drop off. Be sure to let lots of line out.
