We'll be at Sawbill this Saturday night, headed toward Cherokee and beyond Sunday morning, then back out via Sawbill the following Saturday.

Will anyone be around during those times? It would be nice to put some faces with names if the opportunity arises.

We're going to do a loop up through Cherokee to Tuscarora and little Sag back down through Mesaba to Kelso if anyone else is meandering through there in that time frame.

You'll be 2 days behind my group. We are going in today/tomorrow and up to Cherokee and then East and South through the Temperance Lakes through Kelly and then back to Sawbill. We will leave a trail trout lures snagged on the bottom of Cherokee for you to know we were there.

Great to hear they're biting! What depth did you find them at and did you use live bait? I'm scared to ask...how were bugs?

did NOT use live bait, just lures. nice northern pike on Town lake, easy portage to that lake.
mosquitoes started while we were out, of course it was very dry and no rain until now. since our return the black flies are out and there has been considerable rain.

Good to hear the trout are biting. Looking forward to catching a couple.

Vader, I'll look for your trail. LOL Good luck to you and your crew.

I just got back. The mosquitos were out but not really biting, most numerous at dusk. Probably on the cusp of getting crazy though. I didn't have any black flies where I was (South Temperance).

The shallow water seemed warm enough, I wore keens and no socks the whole time - but probably is colder on bigger water. With rain all week the portages will be very muddy I think - one of my keens got sucked off my foot on that ada creek portage, and that was before this weeks rains.

Putting in at Sawbill June 4th.

If you're taking the Fente-Hub portage on the way to Mesaba - it's a real nice climb at the beginning ;). Going from Little Sag down through there to Kelso is real nice though. Have a good trip.

Just missing quite a few of you, it seems. We'll have to plan that a little better next time. :)

Boonie, that Fente-Hub portage and the long one into Kelso both have my partner's attention. I need to work out the turns so he's got the canoe on those two. LOL Our food will be nearly gone, and I'm packing extra ibuprofen. I did that long one twice in May of '15 and it wasn't so bad, just looong. Hopefully the footbridge isn't underwater.

I'm really looking forward to seeing a lot of country for those 6 days.

I planned those portages at the end, too - we ate the heavy food first ;). It was flooded in 2014, but may have seen some work since.

My buddy and his teenage boy will be fishing on burnt and jack that week. My name is bill. If you are coming this way stop and say hello. We will have a little fine whiskey and hopefully some walleye.

If you only go in to your foot on that portage, it's a win! Every time I'm headed back to Sawbill through Ada and I meet a large group going north after the Ada Creek portage, I ask them "who got sucked in?"

Every time, there will always be at least one! "The water is only 6 inches deep and I see a log in there I can stand on."
