We will be up for the first time on the gunflint trail, and I am looking for any info that people would share about finding a lake with a good chance of catching lake trout. I have been on the MN DNR website and also have researched this website. What I have come up with is Daniels, Crystal, and Moss lake as possible day trips. What I want to know is if I am missing a lake and if you think all of these are possible, legitimate day trips from the flour lake campground?
West Bearskin is literally a mile or less from the campground on Flour and has decent laker fishing at times. Further down that same road is my favorite lake up there Clearwater. You will need a motor permit for Clearwater if your bringing a boat but not for west bearskin. What time of year are you going.

I was just planning on bringing my canoe and leaving the boat at home. Our reservation on flour is from June 4th to the 11th. I wanted to get a couple of day trips into the boundary waters to get some experience before going all out on a week long trip. Also we have never caught lake trout so, I would like my wife and son to get that experience as I hear they are a blast to catch.
