Has anyone been fishing in the Sawbill area so far this year? I head up Friday. This will be my 15th year I think, but am bringing a newbie with me. Curious what smallies, walleye, and northern are hitting on, and how well, so far. Also, how's the bugs? Thanks guys!

Good luck, the bugs were kind of obnoxious I hope you brought a head net. We had no luck fishing on Burnt or Flame. Please post your results and how you got them! Hope you had a great trip.

Thanks for the well wishes, it was a great trip. Northern Lights the first night, then cloudy most of trip. Quite a bit of rain and low temps, but bugs were quite manageable; 1st mosquito bite was on the last day. Fishing was a little slower than most years past, but enough for two grilling meals. No bass caught at all, not even on Smoke, my old neverfail. Northern were biting well, especially on Kelso and Lujenida. Small Mepps Rooster Tails worked well as always. Few walleye caught.

5/31 - 6/4 Stayed at the Sawbill Campground.

Fished Sawbill for about 6 hours two different days. One 14" bass and one small northern. NO WALLEYES. Bugs were terrible and I'm scratching my arms like mad as I type this. (Double - Edit: From Jaywalkers chart these were Black Flies) Talked to a few people and only three guys caught any walleyes and they only caught 3 small ones.

Next year I'm thinking about a September trip to avoid all the bugs. Otherwise the weather was good.

Did see an otter, a black bear, a moose with a calf, and many eagles so the trip was pretty good from that perspective.
