I am headed to Ely for a week of camping at Fall Lake Campground. Last year, I was totally blanked on walleyes and wondered if I was even fishing good lakes?

Can someone recommend lake names only, not locations, that I should target? I am looking for something off the Fernberg Trail or Echo Trail. Any ideas are appreciated.

The number lakes have been good for Walleye. - depends on water temp and depth.........

Ed shave. Little long. There were a few in there a few years ago. Maybe cedar...can't remember much Wallie there.

Ed Shave and Big Lake hold good walleyes. There are walleyes in Slim but it's a hard lake to fish.

If you are up for a semi long daytrip and an adventure, I would throw out Boot Lake west of Fourtown Lake as a spot to do some walleye fishing. It will take you 2-3 hours to get there and of course, 2-3 to get back. but with an early start that leaves plenty of time to fish. I have only fished it once and had very good luck from shore at the campsite we were staying at, including my biggest walleye ever. I have the feeling and have talked to others on this site who concur that Boot is a "sleeper" walleye lake with decent numbers and some BIG fish.

No guarantees obviously, but it would be a pretty cool datytrip regardless.

TGO - you are correct! -
Go to the entry point of your choice, just fill out a day permit at the landing, drop the back card in the box and you are on the water. No permit arrangements ahead are necessary for day use. Sometimes I have even stopped at the Forest Service Office there in Ely and picked up a couple of blank Day Permit Forms so I had them just in case there were none at the entry point.

Yes, this is correct. For paddle day permits and hiking day permits you just fill out a self serve card and off you go. I always have a supply in my glove box just in case there aren't any at the entry point.

No offense, but if you can't catch walleye in Fall you probably won't elsewhere. Fall is a great walleye lake...even my wife catches them there, for what it's worth. BUT, if you want an alternative, my suggestion would be Cedar very nearby.

Fall lake below the power plant...leeches on lindy rigs.....anchor in the current about 100 feet out from the little island on the south if you will......killed them there last week

Absolutely a hot spot... except last year couldn't buy a bite. It was super frustrating. Glad to hear you had good luck.

Lake Wishyouknew has always been good to me

Any lake that the Kawishiwi River runs through is a pretty good walleye lake in my opinion. Insula has been good to me.
