I just returned from a week of fishing in North Bay in the Quetico. Weather was great and fishing was top notch. We mainly fished for smallmouth and had 80-100 fish days. Average size was 15-16 inches and I would say 30% of the bass were 18 inches or better.
Some fish were on beds while others were out deeper. We never bed fished but instead focused on 6-15 foot of water. Points , reefs and any slow tapering boulder strewn shoreline produced fish. Some spots held good numbers of fish.
Best baits were white Zman jerk shads, shallow cranks, a Carolina rigged Zoom Ultra Vibe crayfish and Bass Stopper worms. Some fish were caught on topwaters also.
Biggest pike was 36 inches, walleye at 27 inches and bass at 21 inches.
It rained 2 nights while we were sleeping and winds were manageable all week. We even had a tail wind going out and one coming back.
