I'm looking to buy my first and hopefully last solo. I have it narrowed down between these two boats however I have never seen a Deep Creek in person. I have tried to rent the Northwind from Piragis but it is usually out which speaks well of it. I'm looking for a stable solo fishing boat that's light and stable in big water. Cost is unimportant and speed means nothing as I'm there to enjoy my time. I won't have a dog but I weigh 250 and carry about 30 lbs. of gear totally packed out with fishing tackle. I've read every review on here for Savage River and they are all great but if anyone has any experience with both boats it would be great to hear your impressions of the differences. I currently have a MN2 which used to suit me but as the years roll by I realize that I appreciate a good fishing boat more than a quick boat. Last year I went in for a week in October with a buddy and I didn't care for the MN 2 in the cold sleet and wind. It was an experience I'd rather not repeat.

Cannot speak to the Deep Creek nor Northwind, but I had a Wenonah Wilderness. Had one for a couple years, and it was very stable in big water and very easy to fish out of. I am 235 and the boat was plenty comfortable for me.

Now I have a Swift Shearwater and it is perfect for me. Big, stable (especially secondary), easy to fish from, and I love the sliding seat. I wish Swift had a dealer somewhere near me so I could paddle one of their tandems.

What made you go with the Swift? Can you list a few qualities that separate it from your Wenonah

I have a Northwind solo. I'm around 220 (for now) and it paddles great. Paddle in some wind on Snowbank a couple of weeks ago and it performed nicely. Northstar is a stand up company with great customer service.

I have owned and paddled Savage River Deep Creek solo since 2014, have no complaints about it at all. Handles any and all water I've asked her to go through. I've run some class II rapids, that looking back on wished I had portaged around, not a good idea being 25 miles in the Canadain bush with a busted up canoe because you "knew" you could save some work by running a rapids instead of portageing. If you would like to test it out contact me and we can maybe get togather , the canoe is stored just south of Austin Minn. FRED

Easier to maneuver in wind and on big water, and I find the sliding seat to be an incredible advantage in all conditions. Depending on the conditions, I can move fore and aft to balance the load unlike any other solo I have paddled. Also, not to be undermined is the sheer cool factor! The boat is a beauty, and there are very few anywhere around me!!

I'm with Frenchy19 sliding seats are really nice, that was one on the first things I asked about when I had my Savage River solo made, also I got to decide how high I wanted the sliding seat. FRED

I originally was going to buy the Northwind solo but since I saw the Swift boats at Copia this year I'm leaning towards the Shearwater. Your right, these are gorgeous and they have a carbon yoke. Just gotta save my pennies.
