Looking for route suggestions starting at EP 55. Tow to border route? Family of 4, out for six nights, we tend to move fairly fast, we like to portage. Remote lakes? Your suggestions are appreciated.

Its a little hard to get remote from Saganaga in that time frame without heading north to Quetico. A nice loop can be worked out heading off the border at Ester-Hanson- Cherry-Amoeber. Less busy on those very pretty lakes. Drop into the south arm of Knife and then to Eddy and Ogishkemuncie and back east to Seagull. It is a popular route, but has a lot of campsites.

Starting on Saganaga can be tricky. If you can get on the water at dawn you are likely to beat the wind. If starting later in the day either get the first campsite you come to on the lake or consider a tow to American Point. Even that can be rough if the wind is up when you get there. Have them drop you in the islands and find a site if thats the case.

Are you two adults and two children? One or two canoes? If you are traveling in two canoes with an adult and child in each, you have to plan on having tough traveling in the wind. Just plan for it. Get early starts and have your traveling done by late morning and have some leisurely afternoons in camp. A calm afternoon would allow you to travel more. Be flexible.

We've done the Seagull, Ogish, Edy and back. But have never explored North & West of Seagull. Should we experience the border route at least once? That are is kind of new to me. Thanks for suggesting the lakes. I will take a look at them tonight.

Great advice, we will start off with a tow in order to get a head start.

We have two canoes. Wife and I use a Champlain and we bought the boys a SR18 a couple years ago. And when I say kids, I mean teenagers. There both 6'2" and growing.

With teenage muscle you could extend that trip south from Ogish to Little Saganaga and go out through Tuscarora to Round Lake. I have done the hitch-hike from Round back to Trails end, but you could arrange a shuttle with Tuscarora Lodge and Outfitters. In fact, you could get them to do your tow and then your car would be waiting for you at the end of the trip. Definitely a good 7 day/6 night trip.

paddle border lakes until south arm of knife.
from south arm knife take the portage to Sema and then through the little lakes from there to Spoon, Pickle, Kekekabic, south through some little lakes to Fraser, then east to Sagus, Roe, Cap, Vee, Fee, Hoe, Elton, Little Sag, Mora, Tarry, Crooked, Owl, Tuscarora, Missing Link, Round and land on the beach of Tuscarora Lodge and Outfitters.

two of us did this route in 8 nights with 2 separate layover days, so you could do it in 6 nights. always paddle early in the morning and then you can make camp early when the wind picks up.
