I'll be going 8 days. We will probably fish hard for about 5 of those. It will be 4 boys fishing hard and 5 girls fishing occasionally.

How many pounds of leeches would you recommend?

2 to 3 pounds which is an equivalent to 24 to 36 dozen leeches....

If you are jigging you'll want all of them.

I just got back from a trip with two other buddies and we fished hard for three days and we went through a pound.

For a group of 8 guys fishing hard for 5 days we take 3 pounds of Leeches. I would say 2 pounds for the boys group, 1 pound for the girls group.

We just went through 2 lbs, 4 guys in 3-1/2 days of fishing hard. Buy 3 lbs., as there is no sense in running out when that extra pound costs as little as it does.

At least 3 lbs. I would be tempted to bring 4, split that many ways an extra pound costs hardly anything. I have run out of leeches on a trip and it is devastating. Personally I'm willing to pay a premium to avoid that issue going forward.

Where are you purchasing your leeches by the pound? We just went up through the Tofte area and everyone was only selling them by the dozen in the little white containers. I couldn't find anywhere to buy them by the pound anymore.

Heading up for the first time but the way I understand it most the bait shops have them by the pound in Ely. I am going to T.G.O. for mine.

Buy one pound and bring jigs and twister tail grubs. Live bait is not necessary to catch fish up there.

I haven't been up through Tofte in a while but I always got them by the pond at Mike's Holiday station in town.

Just got back from Disappointment...we went in Saturday and left Friday. 6 guys went thru 3 pounds easily. 2 guys barely used any, 2 guys almost a pound, and 2 other guys primarily fishing leeches were well over a pound.

Don't forget that smallies will hit leeches also and account for quite a few fish as normally they are in the same areas this time of year (early spring - shallow).
