I just got back from a 3 day trip to Brule with my girlfriend. We stayed at a campsite on an island and immediately upon arrival on Thursday, we noticed numerous small pieces of garbage (small pieces of tin foil, twisty ties, random pieces of plastic/cardboard packaging) scattered throughout camp. Not a huge deal - we picked up whatever we found and put it in our garbage bag to pack out. Later, I sent my girlfriend on a firewood run behind camp while I set up the remainder of camp. Not too far behind our campsite, she found several piles of garbage that were attempted to be burned and buried. Everything from aluminum and tin cans to plastic bags and other types of garbage were in these various piles scattered around the backsite of our camp not too far from the latrine. It was very upsetting to see. Not too far from those garbage piles was a pile of fish guts. It was extremely upsetting to come across on the start of our trip.
Not to mention that every birch tree within 150 ft of camp was completely stripped of birch bark on the bottom 5-6 ft of the tree. The further I explored, I found several live trees that had clearly been cut down for firewood which is just pure laziness.
Later that day, we paddled across the lake to a popular shore fishing spot for the night bite. Once we got to the shore spot, we found five different smallmouth bass that had deliberately been left on shore to rot in the bushes. My estimation is that they were about 1-2 weeks old. Around the corner I also found a stringer that was left on the rock as well as a 30" plastic fish trough (measuring device). It was sickening as this is my favorite spot on the entire lake to fish and this was all discovered on our first day of the trip. I've been coming to this lake for about 10 years and have never seen anything like it before. Very sad.

quote shock: "i hate it when people strip birch trees , there's usually plenty of birch bark laying all over the ground, SMH !"
Yea I don't get that either. The stuff that blows off the trees naturally is drier and burns better anyways. Lazyness! A longer walk through the woods might do these folks good.
